I Despise Eating in the AM...

I hear this WAY more often than you think - the thought of eating in the AM makes you want to barf. You haven’t done it since 6th grade. This is common but this is NOT normal, especially if you’re training early in the day.

Your appetite hormones adapt to what you do consistently. So, if you choose not to eat in the AM then your body adjusts those hunger and fullness hormones accordingly.

This doesn’t mean you don’t need food/energy, it just means your body isn’t going to waste energy telling you something you choose to ignore.

This can work for some people but honestly for most it makes for a disregulated blood sugar and chaos in the form of fatigue at 2 PM and cravings all night long. For active women, it also likely means you are underfueled.

So, my recommendation as a dietitian who focuses on performance nutrition? Add something in the morning and START SMALL then see what happens to your appetite regulation.

Start with

  • 1/2 piece of toast with PB + banana

  • Slice of toast with 1 egg on top

  • A few sips of smoothie

  • A handful of grapes

SOMETHING. Once your body recognizes that food is coming to it when it should then your hunger and energy will come back. Let me know if you try this and what results you see!
